Death was due to a heart ailment from which she had suffered for several years. Rev. John A. Northrop of Ne Underwood, former Ree Heights pastor and friend of the family, officiated at the services. Death was due to a heart ailment from which she had suffered for several years. Rev. John A. Northrop of Ne Underwood, former Ree Heights pastor and friend of the family, officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Joe Bell of Rapid City, Alfred Bouren, Douglas Scott, Roy Hammill, LaVern Aymar and Bill Struse of Ree Heights. Internment was made in the G.A.R. Cemetery at Miller, beside her husband and parents. Music was furnished by quartet, Ray McGee, Mrs. Merle Maxted, Mrs. Wayne McGee and Verlyn Schock, who sang, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Along The River of Time' and "In The Garden", accompanied by Mrs. H.H. Gardner at the organ. Minnie Catherine Haefs, second oldest of five children was born to Ernest and Emma Haefs, September 27, 1876, in Polk County, near Mitchellville, Iowa. Her early childhood and young womanhood was spent there and in Green County, Iowa. In February, 1900, she was united in marriage to David S. Ewing at Bayard, Iowa. In the fall of 1901 she and her husband, along with her parents and younger sister and brothers came by covered wagon to Miller, S.D., where her older brother was living. They continued to make their home in Hand County, coming to Ree Heights in 1916, where she had lived for the past 40 years. Two children were born, a son, Clarence Merle, who died in infancy and a daughter, Hazel Marie, Mrs.C.W. Stockman of Ree Heights. Though in poor health for a number of years and suffering severely at time the past winter, from arthritis and a heart condition, the end came suddenly about 8 o'clock, Saturday evening, June 2, about an hour after she and her daughter had returned from Miller, where she had consulted her doctor. Following her call at the doctors office, she visited in the home of her brother, Roy Haefs. Upon returning home, she become more ill and before help could be summoned, she passed away in her daughter's arms. Mrs. Ewing was a loving mother and grandmother and a good neighbor, always considerate of others, she was loved by her friends and relatives. She enjoyed life and when able, went to church. She enjoyed the radio and always listened to the sermons on Sunday. She loved music and liked ot sing with her granddaughter playing the piano. For many years she was a member of the Helping Hand Class of the local Congregational church. She was preceded in death by her husband in December, 1927, also her parents, two brothers, W.C. Haefs and Lloyd Haefs and one sister, Mrs. C.W. Sisk. She is survived by her daughter, one granddaughter, Mrs. Lyle D. Jones of Huron and two great grandsons, Merele and Michael Jones, one brother, Roy Haefs of Miller and three sisters-in-law, also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. June 8, 1956
