Daughter of John Marker and Mary Alice Jacoby OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, May 17, 1956 MRS. GILES ROBERTS Minnie May Marker, daughter of John and Mary Alice Marker, was born in Lucas County, Iowa, Oct. 6, 1877 and died at her home in Chariton May 9, 1956 at the age of 78 years, seven months and three days. She had been in failing health for several years, but death came unexpectedly following a heart attack. She grew up on a farm near Norwood and was married Feb. 6, 1896 to Winfred Lipe, who died in December of that year. On April 2, 1902, she was married to Ellis Curtis and they made their home on a farm until his death on July 31, 1915, at which time she and her daughter, Ruth, moved to Chariton. To this union four children were born, two dying in infancy, and a daughter, Lucile at the age of four years. Her eldest daughter, Mrs. Loren Storm is the only surviving child. On Oct. 12, 1920 she was married to Giles Roberts, of Chariton, and they lived on a farm in Lucas county until 1926 when they moved to a farm in Dallas county, near Van Meter, remaining there until Mr. Roberts died Nov. 19, 1940. She then returned to Chariton to make her home at 517 North Main street. In girlhood she was converted and joined the United Brethren church at Norwood, later transferring her member ship to the Chariton U. B. church. As long as her health permitted she was a regular attendant at Sunday school and church services and was a devoted member of the Ladies Aid Society. Those left to mourn are her daughter, Ruth Storm and husband, one sister, Lydia Nine and four step-children, Mrs. Mabel Stewart and Mrs. Juanita Yocom of Des Moines, Ivan Roberts of Cedar Rapids and Nealy Roberts of Colfax, 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Five sisters and one brother preceded her in death. The Rev. A. Beuerman conducted funeral services Friday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at the Miley Chapel. Interment was in the Fletcher cemetery near Norwood.
