Son of Solomon Marker and Hannah Kreitzer OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Thursday, August 12, 1920 JOHN MARKER John Marker was born in Darke County, Ohio, on February 18, 1835, and died in Lucas, Iowa, on August 1, 1920. His age was 85 years, 5 months and 14 days. He grew up in Darke County, Ohio, and was married there and moved in a wagon with three brothers to Ottercreek township, Lucas County, Iowa, in the fall of 1864, and his home has been in Lucas County almost all the time since. His father and mother and families came by railroad, arriving at nearly the same time. He was married to Catherine Jacoby on July 19, 1860 in Darke County, Ohio. To them were born four children, all of whom survive him. They are: Mrs. Salinda Hendrickson, of Lucas; C. L. V. Marker, of Prineville, Ore.; Mrs. Rettie Haltom, of Chariton; and Mrs. Belle Grater, of Prineville, Ore. His wife departed this life on May 25, 1868. He was again married to Mary Alice Jacoby on October 21, 1877 in Lucas County, Iowa. To them were born three children, one of which died in infancy. The living are Mrs. Minnie Curtis of Chariton and Mrs. Lydia Nine of Lincoln township. He professed conversion to Christ in his home in 1883, during the last sickness of his wife, who also became a Christian soon after in the home. Since that time he has ever claimed the promise and in the distress of his last hours, his experience of sufferings were mingled with prayers to God. Besides his living children, one brother, Elias Marker, of Hamburg, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Mary J. Curtis, of Ottercreek township, survive him. There are also twenty-five grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren, besides many other kindred and friends. He lived to a ripe old age and was active on his feet to the last day, but the call of death was sudden. He was ill less than one hour and died at the home of his daughter at Lucas on Sunday night, August 1, at 11:30. Rev. E. W. Curtis had charge of the funeral services at the Norwood U. B. church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. and interment was at the Fletcher cemetery.
