On December 11, 1917, she was married to Ray D. Garey at Corning, Iowa. To this union were born seven children; Maxine Huffner of Shawnee, Kansas, Dorothy Odson of Lenox, Iowa, Pauline Wheeler of Villisca, Iowa; Robert of Shawnee, Kansas, Lola Odso of Villisca, Iowa, William of Villisca, Iowa and Virginia Simet of Spencer, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Ruby and Rugh, one brother, Joseph, her husband, Ray, and one grandchild. Surviving are her seven children, 22 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. Opal was a member of the Methodist Church. Serves were held at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, Iowa, Friday, February 8, 1980. The Rev. Elliott Bodwell was officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Quincy Dunn. The organ selections were, “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.: Mrs Wade Schooley handled the register book. Flower bearers were Mrs. Verne Gourley and Mrs. Gon Andrew. Casket bearers were Clyde Chapman, Dick Smith, Subby Belfore, John Muller, Douglas Maxwell, and Jim Everett. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery in Nodaway, Iowa. Arrangements were made by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, Iowa. She is survived by seven children, Mrs. Merrill (Maxine) Hoifner, Shawnee, Kansas, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) Odson of Lacox, Mrs. Ward (Pauline) Wheeler of Villisca, Robert Garey of Lenexa, Kansas, Mrs. Merle (Lola) Odson of Villisca, Bill Garey of Villisca, and Mrs. Tom (Virginia) Simet of Spencer; a sister, Hattie Chapman of Messena; a brother Glen Garey of Des Moines. 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
