Laramie between January 28, 1865 to December 6, 1865. He was discharged at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He served as a Private in Co. G 16th Regiment, Kansas Cavalry. He was discharged for medical reasons. Papers say disease of the throat and lungs. Also catarrah of the head. Rheumatism and back disease. The Pomona Enterprise Pomona, Kan, Friday July 10, 1896 Obituary Morgan Wickam, deceased, was born August 3rd, 1844, near Wilkesbarre, Luzerne Co., Penn, and departed this life June 21st, 1896. He was therefore 51 years, 10 mos, and 18 days old. At the age of 13 he moved with his family to Portage Co., Ohio, where they resided two years and then moved to Miller Co., Mo. Here they remained two years and then took up their journey for Franklin Co., Kans, where he had made it his home since. In 1863, at the age of 19, he enlisted in Co. G, 16th Reg't Kansas cavalry and served until the close of the war. He was converted at a series of meetings held at the Parkinson school house in the winter of 1870, and became a member of the Union Baptist church at that place. He was married to Ellen Parkinson on the 11th day of Feb, 1871, and became the father of eight children, six of whom are now living. He was homorable in his dealings, industrious in habits, and had thereby surrounded himself and family with the comforts of life. About three years ago his health began to fail and since that time month by month and day by day he gradually approached the end. The last weeks of his life he suffered much; yet amidst it all he was thoughtful of those he was to leave behind, especially his companion in life; and arranged his business accordingly, even giving directions as to his burial and who should conduct his funeral. He died in the triumph of a living faith; and has gone from the cares and suffering of this life in the flesh, where he will quietly, patiently and lovingly wait the coming of dear ones he has left behind. His wife has parted for the time being with a devoted husband; his children a kind and loving father, his acquaintences with a warm friend, an accommodating neighbor, and a true and loyal citizen.
