Description	:	Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Webster Funeral Home for Mrs. Alice Shepard, who died Sunday. Rev. C.C. Miller of the Church of Christ officiated at the services here after which the body was taken to Villisca for interment in the cemetery there. Mrs. Alice Patch Shepard, eldest child of a family of ten, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Patch of near Bedford, in Taylor county, October 30, 1861 and passed away at Osceola on January 16, 1944, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 17 days. She was married to Charles Douglas Shepard in Holt county, MO. on May 9, 1886 and to this union were born four daughters two of whom preceded her in death. The two remaining daughters are: Mrs. Susan Andersen of near Osceola, IA, and Myra Ida Catherine Gourd of Des Moines. Mrs. Shepard attended Tarkio Normal School in Missouri and taught school for nine years. Following her marriage she lived near Stanton and then later made her home at Red Oak and Villisca. It was at Villisca that her children were born. In 1896 she moved to Osceola where she has made her home. Although having her home here, she has during the last ten years visited among her children, and the last four years has spent the winters with Mrs. Edryn Schaffer. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and a member of the Past Noble Grand club. She made her confession of Christ and was baptized at the age of sixteen uniting with the Christian church of Taylor county, Iowa. Mrs Shepard was a practical Christian endeavoring always to be helpful and considerate of those in need. She was to be found in homes of the sick, dying or where ever she could be of assistance. She was loved because of her kindly spirit. She not only loved people but also nature and spent much time in her garden with her flowers. Besides her two daughters she leaves nine grandchildren: Orville L., Oren Wayne, Bernard M., Eugene, Leon, Stanley, Weldon and Charles William Gourd. (Orville and Bernard are in the armed service) and Mrs Edryn Anderson Schaffer; two great grandchildren, Carolyn Darlene Schaffer and James Gourd; three sisters, Mrs. Alpha Hurst of El Reno, Oklahoma, Mrs. Edna Lackey, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Laura I. Rence, Fort Worth, Texas, as well as many friends.
