She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Edith Jones, three brothers, one sister, twin great grandchildren, and her husband of 56 years, John “Blackie” Lane. She was proud to... Read More	Allene Lane was born November 1, 1927 and passed away peacefully December 11, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Edith Jones, three brothers, one sister, twin great grandchildren, and her husband of 56 years, John “Blackie” Lane. She leaves behind: Daughter Mary Getto and Ron Harper of Ozawki, a daughter Nancy Warren and husband Jay of Arkansas City, Son Paul and wife Paula of Clay Center, daughter Suzanne Ahlberg and husband Dick of Clay Center, son Mark of Clay Center, and son John D. and wife Carrie of Clay Center. She was proud to be called “Mimi” by 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Allene was born and raised on “The Farm” in The Flint Hills southwest of Olpe, Kansas and her heart was grounded in the windswept hills. She loved telling stories of growing up there and some of the best memories held by her children are of summers spent with cousins learning about the rural way of life. She loved tradition and family gatherings. She was a strong woman who carried herself with grace, was devoted to her children and never stopped teaching the lessons of life and how to enjoy it. She fostered a love of family and considered it a circle. When anyone was added to the family, she’d say “a circle can always get bigger, just hold hands and step back to make room.” She and her family traveled a great deal generating memories. For over thirty years, she vacationed in Grand Lake, Colorado sharing a love of nature and the mountains and it was normal to have 30-40 Jones and Lanes vacationing together each year. Allene taught two years in Bushong, Kansas after graduating from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia. She moved to Wakefield, Kansas where her husband began his teaching career. Their next stop was Beloit, and then, in 1959, Clay Center, the place she always said she knew would be home for the rest of her life. Her husband coached over 100 seasons of athletics and she loved every season because she loved sports and when she could no longer attend her grandchildren’s events, she enjoyed listening to them on the radio. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until service time Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, KS. Memorial services for Allene will be at 4:00 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Blackie and Allene Scholarship c/o the funeral home.
