Description	:	Elaine Christine Thurn, 88, passed away in her sleep at home on April 17, 2015. Elaine was born in Clay Center, KS where she grew up on the family farm with her two brothers, Gene & Edward. She graduated from high school in Clay Center before attending Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. Her education continued at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she graduated with a bachelor's degree, and trained in Medical Technology. Read More	Elaine Christine Thurn, 88, passed away in her sleep at home on April 17, 2015. Elaine was born in Clay Center, KS where she grew up on the family farm with her two brothers, Gene & Edward. She graduated from high school in Clay Center before attending Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. Her education continued at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she graduated with a bachelor's degree, and trained in Medical Technology. She spent the majority of her long career working in the Microbiology Lab at Children's Mercy Hospital, where she retired at the age of 75. Elaine was an amazing mother, mother in law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Throughout her life she never stopped looking forward to and planning her next adventure. Her love of learning was expressed through her insatiable love for reading, her extensive worldwide travel and her participation in many cultural and social activities. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and were touched by her exuberant approach to life. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Thurn, her brother Edward Carlson and her daughter and son in law, Drs. Rebecca Crowley and David Hof. She is survived by her brother Gene Carlson, son Dr. John Thurn (Dr. Ellen Yetter), daughter Marta Sanor (Mike Sanor), stepson Bob Thurn (Gwen Thurn), 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, as well as a large and loving extended family who will all miss her dearly. A celebration of Elaine's life will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 2:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Endowment Trust Fund, a donation to the KU Endowment Medical School Scholarship Fund in Dr. Rebecca Crowley's memory ("Rebecca A. Crowley Scholarship" c/o KU Endowment Association, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., MS 3012, Kansas City, KS 66160), or to a charity of your choice.
