Mrs. Jane Barthel died last night at 11 o'clock in St.Mary's Hospital after an operation performed Sunday night. She had been in bad health for several weeks but her condition was not considered especially serious until recently. Mrs. Barthel was 32 years old and was born near London, England. When a small child she came to America, and grew to womanhood in an Eastern state, where she married Samuel Barthel. After their marriage they lived for a number of years in Niagara Falls, N.Y. where Mr. Barthel was employed. About two years ago the family came to Emporia. Mr. Barthel is at present traveling for the Layton Food Company, of St. Louis. Mrs. Barthel was a woman of strong religious beliefs and delighted especially in acts of kindness to her friends and neighbors. In the home, which was her constant delight, her true character was shown strongest. Besides her husband she leaves two small sons, Harold and John Barthel. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ********************** Emporia Gazette, Thursday, 2 March 1911; p. 1, c. 3 The funeral services of Mrs. Samuel Barthel will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:45 o'clock at the home, 702 Sylvan street, and at 2 :30 o'clock at the Evangelical Church. The services will be conducted by Rev. P.G. Nufer and Rev. R.H. Mize. Internment will be made in Maplewood cemetery.
