Transcribed by Franklin Sampson The Parkersburg News Sunday 16 August 1959 pg 1 CALHOUN GIRL LOSES LIFE IN ROAD ACCIDENT A 10 year old girl was fatally injured yesterday when she rolled off a truck as it rounded a curve near Orma in Calhoun County, State Police reported. Cpl. L. E. Haynes of the Grantsville detachment identified the victim as Myrle Kay Siers, daughter of Earl and Hallie Siers of Nicut, Calhoun County. He said the accident occured about 3:30 p.m. on Secondary Rt 11 between Orma and Nicut. The girl was riding on the back of a 1950 model International one and a half ton truck and had been holding onto the cab but apparently let loose of the cab as the vehicle went around the curve, investigating officers said. She fell to the right berm of the highway, apparently suffering a fractured neck. Cpl. Haynes said the truck was driven by the girl's uncle, Clyde Sampson of Nicut. They had been to a sawmill near Arnoldsburg,. ( continued on page 17, Col 3.) where they had cut up some wood slabs for use as firewood and were returning home when the accident occurred. The girl was said to have been sitting on the slabs on the truck which was equipped with sideboards, but was described as "pretty well filled" with the wood. The accident occurred near the home of George Knotts. He took the victim to Gordon Memorial Hospital at Spencer in his car. She died enroute to the hospital police were told. The body was taken to the Stump Funeral Home at Grantsville. Cpl. Haynes and Trooper C.C. Beck conducted the investigation.
