The church was filled with relatives and friends paying their respects to this long-time Coffey County resident and there were many beautiful floral pieces. Rev. Tempfer gave the scripture and prayer and then Rev. Miley a personal friend, gave a comforting sermon, paying high tribute to Mr. Reed’s life. Another friend, Rev. Armstrong, sang two favorite hymns and was accompanied by his wife. The casket bearers were Teryl Lawrence, Robert Solsby, M. I. Wood, H. B. McCormick and Earl Garrett, all of Burlington and Taylor Haas of Madison. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery where the committal service was given by Rev. Armstrong and then Rev. Tempfer gave the benediction. Myron A. Reed was born at Reedsville, Ohio June 20, 1874 and departed this life July 4, 1955 at his home in Burlington, Kansas. He was 81 years and 14 days old. When he was five years of age, his parents, Austin and Rebecca Reed moved from Ohio to a farm in the Oak Grove community, east of Burlington, and it was here that Myron, one of a family of eight children, grew to manhood. He was married December 20, 1898 (Note: This date is probably incorrect. The wedding date was probably Dec. 20, 1897) to Myrta Wilson and to them were born 11 children, nine of whom survive. During their farming career Mr. and Mrs. Reed owned and operated a number of farms in the Burlington vicinity. Mr. Reed was by nature a builder and usually added substantial improvements to the farms he owned. In 1942, Mr. and Mrs. Reed retired to a suburban home in Burlington, and it was here, that Mrs. Reed passed away November 12, 1944. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Reed lived for a time with his children, but later bought and maintained a home of his own in Burlington. In his youth he united with the Pleasant Hill Christian Church and later transferred his membership to the Burlington Christian Church where he served as a member of the official board of the church and a teacher of the men’s bible class. Mr. Reed is survived by four sons; Stanley Reed and Melvin Reed of Burlington; Wilson Reed of Madison, and Leo Reed of Edgerton. Five daughters survive: Mrs. Bernice Quakenbush, Walla Walla, Washington; Mrs. Lois Taggert and Mrs. Ermine Dean of Madison, Kansas; Mrs. Grace Milberger, Kansas City, Missouri and Mrs. Phyllis Fall, Long Beach, California. There are 17 surviving grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A daughter, Elsie died on October 4, 1927 and a son, Myron Jr., died in infancy. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Sanders, Sterling, Kansas, and Mrs. Mabel Mahuron, Liberal, Kansas, and a number of more distant relatives.
