E. church, will conduct the services at the home on South Congress street tomorrow at 2 o'clock. ************************************************* From the Emporia Gazette, Tuesday, January 29, 1901. p. 1 A Sad Occurrence. One of the saddest things that has occurred for many a day in Emporia, was the funeral of H.M. Buckley, which was held this afternoon at the family home at 102 South Congress. A death, is always sad, but when the funeral is attended by a son, who is in charge of a policeman,it is something that goes beyond words to describe. As we told in last night Gazette, Chas. Buckley, a boy (nearly a man) [and two others] was arrested Friday night for breaking of window glass in a Santa Fe caboose. The boy's father lay at death's door at the home, but the boy was without friends and unable to get bond. Sunday night while the usual motley crowd in the jail sang ragtime songs and told stories, the father died. The boy was still unable to get bond and although, supposed to be the man of the family and a comfort to his widowed mother, he was obliged to remain in jail. Yesterday he was brought before a justice of the peace, but because of the absence of several witnesses for the prosecution, the trial was reset for today. Justice Anderson took pity on the boy and put his bond down to $100, but the boy could not find a friend who would stand for the amount and as a result he was remanded to jail, where he was held until the time of the funeral today.
