Myrtle Bell Farr was born August 10, 1897, in Diamond Center Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin C. and Alice H. (Hovenburg) Farr. In 1910 she moved with her parents, her sister Grace (Mrs. Floyd Scott) and her brother Ernest to a farm near Parker, S.D. As a young girl Myrtle became a member of the First Baptist Church of Parker, S.D. She was married to Dr. Jay M. Baily at Cherokee, Iowa, on May 31, 1918. They spent the remainder of their lives in Parker where Dr. Baily practiced veterinary medicine. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1965. Their family consists of three daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Ed Schultz of Parker), Bettie (Mrs. Armand Di Nubila of Mission Viejo, Calif.), and Bonnie (Mrs. Lee Gunderson of Osceola, Wis.). Myrtle was active in church and community affairs. She was a charter member of Geo. E. Sperbeck Unit #30 of the American Legion Auxiliary, the first unit in the state of South Dakota. She had served as secretary and president of the local unit and as president of District I of the organization. She was a past matron of St. Cecelia Chapter #77 of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she had been a member for more than fifty years. Mrs. Baily is survived by her brother and sister who reside in Parker, by her three children, her six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
