The organist was Angie Hawkins and the soloist was Joan Gerard. Selections were "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Terra Van Tomme was the pianist and her selection was "Amazing Grace." Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, was in charge of arrangments. Myrtle Caroline Ormiston, daughter of Mary Jepp Spading and Albert Spading was born March 10, 1912, on a farm southeast of Brooklyn, IA. Myrtle was a twin, her twin brother was Marvin Spading. Myrtle received her education in rural schools and Brooklyn high School graduating in 1930. She taught several rural schools after her graduation. On February 26, 1932, she was married to Edward James Ormiston at the Grinnell Methodist Church parsonage and they farmed on the Ormiston Farm north of Brooklyn. Mr. Ormiston died April 16, 1945. She returned to teaching rural schools in 1946, later taught at Hartwick and BGM until her retirement in 1977. Myrtle graduated from Drake University in June 1962. Altogether she taught 40 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Columbian Club, UMW and Kum-Joy-Nus Class. She loved working outside with her flowers and garden. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and Dean Van Tomme, Brooklyn, and Dona and Bob Hoover, Harrisburg, PA; one son and his wife, Charles E. and Anita Ormiston of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, Deana Hall, Terry Van Tomme, Greg Van Tomme, Lori DeWitte, & Brian Van Tomme, all of Brooklyn; Matthew & Caroline Ormiston of Austin, TX; two sisters, Marie Roudabush and Gladys Paynter of Brooklyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward: 3 brothers, Ross, Harvey & Marvin Spading; & 2 sisters, Edith Spading & Kathryn Metz.
