H,N. Hulse, United Brethren pastor of Clarinda, had charge of the services, with Rev. Clarence Moore, pastor of the church, assisting. Flowers were in charge of four granddaughters, Mrs Merrill Cagley, Mrs Trula Hamm, Mrs Violet Smith and Mrs Wyleen Miller. Interment was in Old Memory cemetery. Nancy Ann Bales, daughter of Lewis and Mary Bales, was born in Greene Co., Tenn. Jan. 15, 1868 and departed this life Aug. 30, 1951 in Clarinda, Ia. at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 15 days. She was united in marriage to John Thompson on April 11, 1884. To this union were born 8 children: three sons, James of Sonoma, Calif., Ernest of New Market and William Aubrey of Gravity and three daughters, Mrs Bessie Hazelton and Mrs Stella Prigga of Clarinda, Mrs Jessie Peterman of New Market, Mrs Jennie Thompson and one son, Aleck Thompson preceded her in death, Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one brother, Jonathan Bales of Denver, Mo. and a host of relatives and friends. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 12 and joined the United Brethren church and remained faithful to the end. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, Mr and Mrs Thompson were long time residents of Mason township, living on a farm south of town for a number of years before retiring six years ago, when they moved to New Market to make their home, They moved to Clarinda two months ago; due to illness of Mrs Thompson, staying in the home of her daughter, Mrs Bessie Hazelton.
