No.1152 GRANDMA BLAIR DEAD Mrs. David Blair, better known to our readers as Grandma Blair, passed away at her home in the sand-hills north-east of Silver Creek on October 22, after a lingering illness. As Nancy Ann Eads she was born in Illinois in 1835, and lived to the ripe old age of ninety years. In 1852 she was united in marriage to David Blair and in 1883 they moved to Nebraska and settled on the farm where they both lived out their days, Mr. Blair having preceded her in death fourteen years ago. To this union 13 children were born, nine of them surviving their parents, four girls and five boys. There are also forty-one grandchildren, and fifty-seven great grandchildren. Having lived here so long, she was well known, and every one loved and respected her. Grandma Blair had many virtues, one of which was most beautiful, that of possessing abiding love and faith in all, through all and for all. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in Silver Creek Saturday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. Webster, of Lincoln, at one time pastor of the M.E. church here and the remains were laid at rest in the Silver Creek cemetery. Note: Nancy Ann's death certificate indicates she died on October 24th, 1925 and was buried on October 24th at Silver Creek. As per her obituary she died on Thursday, October 22, 1925 and was buried on Saturday, October 24, 1925. Note: The Methodist Church has burned down twice since the first church was built. Many records did not survive and there are gaps in available information. There are no church records available for Nancy or husband David Blair. From phone interview with Reverend Johnston, Methodist Church, Silver Creek, NE. July 31, 2012. -Currently there is no headstone to denote Nancy's grave site. It is deduced through the Silver Creek Cemetery receipt book that son James Edgar Blair on October 31, 1911 purchased for the sum of $15.00 two or more lots. The lots were probed some years back and no casket was felt. However bodies at the time were buried in furniture crates and wrapped in sheets or cloaks. It is surmised this may be the case and little remains are left in the grave. Phone interview with Erma Grosch, Sexton, Silver Creek Cemetery, July 31, 2012. In the "History of Merrick County NE, Vol II" submission by Ms. Dorthea Martin to the Merrick County Historical Society there were inaccuracies with submitted information especially concerning the families of John David & Jessie Edgar Boswell Families. John and Jess are the son's of Lucy (Blair) Boswell. Lucy is the daughter of Nancy Ann(Eads)and David Blair. John David Boswell and brother Jess went on to live long lives in the Columbus, Platte, NE area, both raising families there..some of which who continue to live in the area to this day (Kubicek and Boswell decendents). Another inaccuracy in the History of Merrick County NE, Vol II is the incorrect spelling of Nancy Ann's maiden name. Submitted as Aeda it should read Eads. Information confirmed through her marriage license and death certificate. Have not found his burial site to date. John Wesley Blair. 12/25/1859-6/11/1945 Robert F. Blair. 8/30/1861-1903. Believe he died in Vancouver, Clark, WA. Working On.
