Farmer Source: Grave Stone Records of Poweshiek, Iowa Page Number: 240 "The News-Herald" Hillsboro, Ohio Tuesday, December 26, 1901, Page 8 Obituary Nancy Ann McCoy was born Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio February 7, 1821 and departed this life near Forest Home, Iowa, November 21, 1901 at 12:00 o'clock (noon) at 69 years, 9 months, and 14 days. She was married twice, first in Marshall, Ohio to John S. Allen, September 4, 1851, and with him came to Iowa in 1854, traveling by steamboat from Cincinnati, Ohio to Burlington, Iowa, and settling in Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa, where she lived two years, removing to Jefferson County, near Fairfield, in 1856, and from there to Union Township, Poweshiek County, in the fall of 1858, two years ago. To her and her first husband were born six children, four of whom died in infancy and two are living: David Edley Allen of Grinnell, Iowa and Mary Emma Allen Medley of Oregon. Her first husband, John Sandford Allen, died September 12, 1862, and on September 6, 1863, she was married to John Farmer. By this union four children were born, Albert F. Farmer, Isaac Farmer, Martha Jane Farmer and Sarah C. Farmer, all of whom are living. The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon at two o'clock and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. The deceased was born and reared in the faith of the Friends or Quakers and, though in later years she had no profession, she always adhered to their teachings, and the day before she passed away, she said to her physician, "I am not afraid to die." She was a faithful wife, a kind, indulgent mother and a friend to all. Her descendants number 10 children, 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, of whom 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren are living, and together with the bereaved husband mourn their loss.
