Description	:	Nancy Jane Chamberlain Hollis formerly of Nodaway, was born in Peoria, Ill., April 9, 1858, departed this life Nov 25 after several weeks of illness, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Alonzo Ruben in Corning. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 90 years. She came with her parents to make her home in Clarinda, Ia., in 1864. Read More	Nancy Jane Chamberlain Hollis formerly of Nodaway, was born in Peoria, Ill., April 9, 1858, departed this life Nov 25 after several weeks of illness, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Alonzo Ruben in Corning. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 90 years. She came with her parents to make her home in Clarinda, Ia., in 1864. Clarinda was an inland town at the time of their coming and they were met with a covered wagon and team at the nearest railroad station in St Joseph, Mo. She spent the most of her early life in Clarinda where she received her education. At the age of 15 she taught her first term of school in Hawleyville and she continued teaching in rural schools until the time of her marriage. She was converted and united with the Methodist church in Clarinda in her girlhood days. On November 4, 1880, she was united in marriage to Samuel Hollis, and to this union were born eight children. The husband, three sons and one daughter preceded her in death. as did also one sister and five brothers. Surviving are three daughters: Mrs Clarence Swisher of Berkeley, Calif, Mrs Hugh Burnside of Ronan, Mont., Mrs Lonnie Ruben of Corning, Ia, and one son, James Hollis of Omaha. There are also twelve grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, besides several nieces and nephews. Mrs Hollis was an active member of the W.R.C. of Nodaway forty years, and was a faithful worker in her church and attended it regularly until the time of her failing health.
