The casket was beautifully decorated with flowers by loving friends and many were the floral testimonies of the appreciated worth and rememberance of her for so long has been almost a silent member of the M. E. Church, on account of ill health. The song service confuted by them was very appropriate, solemn, and appreciated. Rev. Dr. Ewing, principal of Corning Academy, opened the service with prayer, after which he read part of two chapters of scripture that were appropriate for such occasion, in a manner that was very solemn and impressive. Rev. Dr. W. O. Allen of the M. E. Church, delivered the sermon and eloquently described the abiding faith the deceased had in the promise of the Lord, and her long service to the cause of Christianity, paying a special tribute to the silent members of the church who are shut in by reasons of affliction. He spoke of her Christian self denial and life-long devotion to her family, greater love for which a mother never had, and exalted her virtues as worthy of emulation by all her sorrowing friends. After that Rev. Lovejoy closed with a touching tribute to the memory of the deceased, he having known her for many years. A goodly number of friends and relatives followed the remains to the First Baptist Church in Washington Township, where owing to the great number of relatives and friends living in that vicinity who could not attend the services in Corning, a second service was held, equal to the first, being opened by Prof. I. P. Clark by prayer, after which he read the scripture lesson. Dr. W. O. Allen followed by another address, in which he paid another tribute to the Christian mother in this church. This was followed by Rev. Lovejoy, whose address will long be remembered by the near friends of the deceased. The choir from Corning very kindly attend the funeral procession and conducted the song service, all that was mortal of Nancy E. Homan was laid in the grave beside four of her little ones who have long since gone on before, in the beautiful cemetery near the church. Nancy E. Wilson was born in Putnam County, Indiana August 21, 1837. She was married to Isaac Thomas Homan in 1857, and together they removed to Adams County, Iowa in 1864. Seven children were born to them, one of whom lies in the cemetery near their native home, and four as above stated. Those living are Mrs. Mattie Falconer of Corning, Iowa, wife of John L. Falconer, and Rev. Fletcher Homan. Mrs. Homan was the sister of Mrs. Jesse Homan of Washington Township. She was in her life a loving companion, a kind neighbor, and a friend to all, and was well esteemed by all who knew her and will be sadly missed by many sorrowing friends.
