However, Nancy (Huff) and Pearson Miller lived near Nancy's brother, John Huff, in life and John has his memorial in this cemetery. It might be a reasonable guess that the proximity persisted in death. It appears that at least some of the grave stones may not have fared well and perhaps Nancy's did not survive or there may have been no marker. Nancy was a daughter of Philip and Rachel (Unknown) Huff. [Note: Rachel's maiden name is often alleged to have been Jackson or Harmon--or both!--but have you ever seen an actual primary source or even a reasonably authoritative source? If so, please share it! It appears that people have just been copying from others' unsubstantiated trees and that her maiden name is simply not known.] Nancy was most likely born in southwest Virginia, likely in that part of southwest Virginia that fell into Montgomery County when it was formed in 1777 and that in 1831 became Floyd County. This is where the Huff family resided for many years (what is now the Copper Hill area of Floyd County). The Philip Huff family appears-- according to tithe records and a sister Ailsey's birth in 1776 (per her death record)--to have previously resided in Loudoun County, Virginia. However, by 1880, the family was likely located in southwest Virginia, where Philip was shown to have contributed supplies (flour) during the Revolutionary War and for which he was later paid. Nancy's year of birth as 1781 is an estimate. A marriage bond was issued 4 Dec 1797, as recorded in Franklin County, Virginia records. The actual marriage would have occurred after the bond was issued. She appears to have been underage at the time, as there was a 11 Dec 1797 record of her father giving permission for the marriage license to be issued, something that would normally be needed for one who was under age. Nancy's place and year of death are unknown. It would seem likely that she died where she and Pearson lived, in Fentress County, Tennessee. Her death may have occurred some time between about 1820 and 1850.
