The early years of life were spent in Indiana where, in the year 1854, she was united in marriage to Perry McFarlin. The Weekly Republican Montezuma, Poweshiek County, Iowa January 20, 1904 Nancy Kemp was born in Kentucky, July 12, 1828, died Jan. 3, 1904, age 75 years, 5 months, and 23 days. The early years of life were spent in Indiana where, in the year 1854, she was united in marriage to Perry McFarlin. The young couple turned their faces westward the same year and settled in Iowa, taking up a homestead. Seven children were born to them, one died in infancy. Of the living children four were present at the time of death. Her husband died in Jan. 1898. About this time Mrs. McFarlin received a stroke of paralysis. A few years later she was again prostrated, and again about ten mouths before her death. Since the last stroke, she was practically helpless, but the youngest son, Evan, remained with her at the old home and dutifully and lovingly attended to her wants day and night until death called her. She was a good and kind mother, and as a neighbor was always ready and willing to help in sickness and every time of need. She spent nearly sixty years in the Christian faith. The burial services were held in a schoolhouse near the home. The minister of the New Sharon Christian Church officiating.
