Description	:	Perry was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Cummins) McFarlin. The Weekly Republican Montezuma, Poweshiek County, Iowa February 9, 1898 Gone to rest--- Perry McFarlin was born August 4, 1822, near Louisville, Kentucky; moved to Indiana in 1827, with his father. He married Nancy Kemp in 1854, and moved to Mahaska County, Iowa, the same year. He moved to his pleasant home in Sugar Creek township, Poweshiek County in 1860, on which he resided until he departed this life, January 28,1898. He married Nancy Kemp in 1854, and moved to Mahaska County, Iowa, the same year. He moved to his pleasant home in Sugar Creek township, Poweshiek County in 1860, on which he resided until he departed this life, January 28,1898. Seven children were born to them, four boys and three girls. They are all living except one daughter, who died in September, 1866. All of his children were at his bedside when he died, except one son who resided in Kansas. The remains were laid to rest in the Stewart Cemetery Sunday, Jan. 30. The funeral was preached at the Stewart schoolhouse by Rev. Coffin from LeGrande, Iowa. He leaves a kind and loving wife, six children, and many friends to mourn his loss. The above announcement will be sad news to a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Mr. McFarlin was a good man. Only a few weeks ago he was in our office apparently in the best of health. He was always cheerful and when he came to Montezuma numerous old friends always gave him a kindly greeting. The writer appreciated his friendship and along with hosts of others extends sympathy to the bereaved family. For over forty years he was a resident of this county. He was a fit type of those early settlers whose industry, zeal and fortitude laid the foundation for this matchless commonwealth. We owe a debt of gratitude to such as was Mr. McFarlin. Amidst all of the cares and perplexities of life he left behind him the rich inheritance of an untarnished name.
