Henkle, 84 years old of Garrison, at the Vinton city hospital following an illness extending over a period of five weeks. Mrs. Henkle had lived in Garrison for 20 years. Before that she had lived for a period in Buchanan county. She was born at Findley, Ohio on May 23, 1853, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Martin. She was first married to Daniel Ridge. Henkle, 84 years old of Garrison, at the Vinton city hospital following an illness extending over a period of five weeks. Mrs. Henkle had lived in Garrison for 20 years. Before that she had lived for a period in Buchanan county. She was born at Findley, Ohio on May 23, 1853, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Martin. She was first married to Daniel Ridge. In 1917 she married H. C. Henkle at Urbana. Surviving are her husband, three children – Mrs. Tony Smith of Highland Park, Ill; Mrs. Carrie Park of Waterloo, and Claude Ridge of Dysart; and two step-children – Hayes and Blane Henkle. Funeral services will be held at the Henkle home at Garrison at one o'clock Friday afternoon in charge of the Rev. Mr. Artman. Burial will be in the Mt. Auburn cemetery. Thanks! They had a hard life. Nancy's mother died when she was tiny. Then she was pregnant with the twins when her husband committed suicide. He had murdered a friend and was hiding in the closet when the police came for him -- he shot himself rather than be taken to jail. I know when and where he died but don't know which cemetery he was buried in. If I find out, I'll have you link the children to him, too. The children were all with Nancy until 1900 when I found the twins in an orphanage. She must have had a terrible struggle.
