Yes, the tide of life is ebbing. Cold is death my form must lie, Let my loved ones gather around me Let us kiss the last good bye. ONE WHO LOVED HER. (Obituary published 7 April 1909 in the Danbury Reporter. A death notice copy was also published in the 26 March 1909 edition of the Reidsville Review.) Daughter of Richard C. Alley and Polly Sneed. A marriage bond application was applied for on 22 November 1846 by Richard Vernon, with William Shaffer named as a bondsman and J. Hill the witness. Richard died in 1863 as a result of injuries sustained a year earlier during the Battle of Beaver Dam Creek (U.S. Civil War), leaving Nancy a widow in her mid-thirties. The 1900 Census lists her birth month and date as May 1825, while her obituary lists her being 80 years and five days of age (calculated birth date of 28 February 1829). I am not aware of any record that lists her resting place (North Carolina did not issue death certificates until 1913 and her obituary does not list burial details). That being said, her husband is listed as being buried in Buffalo Cemetery, as are many of her children. It is highly likely that she is buried next to her husband, whose resting place also lacks a monument.
