She was united... Read More	"Mother" Naomi Melissa Hitchcock, daughter of James and Millie Hitchcock, was born in Richland Co. OH, Sept. 13, 1845 and departed this life at her home near High Point IA Sept. 1, 1930, aged 84 years, 11 months, and 19 days. She came with her family to Iowa in the year 1857 and located near Burlington where they lived for two years then coming to Decatur County IA locating in High Point Township, where she has ever since resided, thus with the exception of a few years her entire life was spent in the same neighborhood. She was united in marriage to Martin V. McCleary on Dec. 31, 1863. To this union one child was born, Floyd V. , who preceded her in death May 8, 1887. Besides her own child she has raised 2 adopted children, Ernest W. McCleary and Dolly I. Crider. The former resided in their home for the last few years so kindly cared for Uncle Mart and Aunt Melissa. She with her husband were converted and united with the M.E. Church at High Point in the year 1887, later transferring their membership to the Friends Church and then to the Nazarene's and remained in that faith until the end. She was always faithful. She was a good helper in the Lord's cause and always willing to assist in every possible way. Her interest in the church and its work was first in her life. She was faithful in attendance at all the services of the church and was never absent if she could possibly attend until the last few years when her health would not permit. Hospitality was indeed a crowning glory of her home, her kind and pleasant nature and her gentleness of spirit endeared her to one and all, both young and old. One could not be in her presence long without feeling something of joy and inspiration. To meet her was to love her and to know her better was to love her more. Besides her aged companion, she leaves to mourn her departing one sister, Mrs. L.C. Brown of Grand Island NE, three half sisters, Mrs. Ella McCleary of Leon IA, Mrs. Ada Clark of Arnold NE and Mrs. Addie Traupel of Mitchell SD, two sisters and seven brothers preceding her in death. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Services were held at the M.E. Church at High Point conducted by Rev. McFarland, assisted by A.L. Sears with interment being in the nearby cemetery.
