His sister, Amanda "Mianda" (Gilmer) Stewart McMaster, is my 3rd great-grandmother. ******** Nathaniel Squire Gilmer was the son of William Squire Gilmer and Barbara Daugherty. His father died on the same day he was born. On January 11, 1885, he married his first wife, Mary V. Myers. On October 17, 1897, Nathaniel married his second wife, Elizabeth Hannah Kramer. His final marriage took place on April 6, 1927, to Mary Ida Tattersall. ********* DEATH COMES TO N. S. GILMER Albion Citizen Passed Away Friday; Funeral Services Held Sunday Afternoon. N. S. Gilmer passed away at his home in Albion Friday afternoon, April 7th, after a confining illness of but a few weeks duration. Nathaniel Squire Gilmer was born on March 7th, 1858, in Jefferson county, Iowa. There he grew to manhood and on January 11th, 1885, he was married to Mary Myers, who died on May 14th, 1896. To them were born four children, Mrs. Mable Van Sickle of Mooseheart, Illinois; Floyd of Loretto; Mrs. Grace Miller of Albion and John Earl, who died on August 27th, 1918, at Boucq, France, while in service during the world war. On October 17th, 1897, he married Elizabeth Kramer, who passed away on November 7th, 1925. To them were born two children, Mrs. Helen Arbuthnot, living near Cedar Rapids and Hazel, living in Albion. April 6th, 1927, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Stewart who is left to mourn his passing. Besides the children left to mourn are fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Gilmer will be missed not only by those of his immediate family but by a host of friends. In the spring of 1903 he came to Nebraska and located near Central City. In 1908 he came to Boone County living on a farm until 1919 when he moved to Albion to make his home. When he came to live near Albion he transferred his church membership to the Methodist church, Dr. F. M. Sisson being the pastor at that time. He was a faithful member of the church and Sunday School attending services regularly until a few weeks before his death. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. having been initiated into that order on August 18th, 1879. He transferred his membership to the Albion lodge on February 27, 1814. [1914.] As a member of this institution he could always be relied upon to do the various tasks committed to him. As was said of Enoch, 'He was not for the Lord took him." Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. Stopford, officiating. The church was filled with friends who gathered to pay their last respects. The members of the two Sunday School classes with which Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer were associated and the members of the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges attended the services in a body. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
