Nellie Florence Parry, daughter of John and Mary Ann Parry, was born Dec. 7, 1879, at Exira, Iowa. When she was a small girl, she moved with her parent to Cherokee, later moving to Webster City. She received her education in the Webster City schools and later taught for several years in the rural schools of Hamilton county. She was united in marriage April 10. 1901 to William Carden. Mr. and Mrs. Carden farmed in the Webster City and Duncombe communities for many years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1925, and 1927 Mrs. Carden moved into Webster City to make her home. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter and one son who died in infancy; by her parents; one brother and one sister, who died in infancy; and one sister, Mrs. L. B. Cottington, who died in 1918. She is suvived by one daughter and one son, Ward Carden of Duncombe and Mrs. James F. (Marion) Hanke of Webster City; five grandchildren, Mrs. Donald Samuelson, Webster City, Richard and Robert Carden of Duncombe, William and James Hanke, Jr. both of Webster City. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carden was an active member of the Methodist church and was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
