She had suffered a stroke a few days previously and had been in poor health for some time. Funeral services were held at the Horace church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Charles Ver Straten of the Calvary Baptist church of Arcadia, the Rev. Wilber Madsen of the Bethel Baptist church of Ord, and the Rev. Paul Lundgren, missionary of the General Baptist conference in the Platte Valley, of Omaha. Mrs. Wilbur Madsen of Ord and Mrs. Ken Christensen of St. Paul sang "My Home Is There," "When We See Christ," and "Lead Me Gently Home." Miss Karen Oswald of Aurora was the pianist. Ushers were Jim Timmons, Harry Hermsmeyer, Gred Gydesen and Vernon Moody. Pallbearers were Orvil Hamer, Perry Cargill, Neville Cargill, Adrian Sweet, Harry Ita and Clarence Moody. Interment was at the Scotia cemetery. The Hastings-Pearson Mortuary, Scotia, was in charge of arrangements. Relatives from out of town who attended the services were Mrs. H, K. Nellie Marie Rose Stevens, the daughter of Frank and Hattie Stevens, was born in Mills county, Iowa, on July 12, 1897, and passed away at the Ord hospital on Aug. 1, 1963, at the age of 66 years and 20 days. In 1898 she moved with her parents to a farm in Dixon county, Nebr., where she resided until 1913 when they moved near Obert, Nebr. On Oct. 4, 1916, she was united in marriage to Walter Grantham. One son blessed their home. They lived on a farm near Obert until 1926 when they moved to Kilgore to pastor a church. In the fall of 1926 they moved to Kansas City where Walter entered the seminary. Upon graduation in 1929, they returned to the home church at Obert, Nebr., for two years. The following year was spent near Hemingford, Nebr., and from there they moved to Horace in 1932 where they have lived since with the exception of six months in Central City as they served a church there. She accepted Christ as her Saviour in 1922 and united with the Baptist church at Obert, Nebr., at that time where her membership remained until she transferred it to the Horace church. Her life was one of service to others, especially through prayer, cheerful visits and with thoughtful remembrances of flowers and fruit from her own garden. Her heart's desire was to glorify the Lord Jesus, whom she loved so much and served so faithfully. A lover of Christian music and poetry, she spent many hours with her collection of gospel recordings, poems and hymn books. She instilled a desire for these finer things in the lives of her family. Sacrifice for the Lord's work was exemplified in her life continually. Many times when the home duties required someone she would say, "You go and I'll stay." Because of her godly life, "Her children arise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28. She will be keenly missed by her husband, Walter; one son and daughter-in-law, Joyce and Bernice; three grandchildren, Judy, Steve and Penny Lee; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Tesdall and Mrs. Alfred Tesdall, Obert, Nebr., and Mrs. DeLoss Grantham, Scotia, Nebr.; one brother, Harold Stevens, Obert, Nebr.; other relatives and members of the Horace church and a large circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, an infant brother, and one sister, Mrs. W. H. Wyant.
