Schmidt, pastor of the Christian church at Stanhope. Mrs. I.A. Anderson and Clayton Kent sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Saved by Grace." The casket bearers were E.J. Johnson, of Stratford, Steve Linn, Henry Jacobson, Elmer Berggren, Godfrey Lundquist and Oscar Erickson, of Stanhope. Interment was made in the South Marion cemetery. Johnson, of Stratford, Steve Linn, Henry Jacobson, Elmer Berggren, Godfrey Lundquist and Oscar Erickson, of Stanhope. Interment was made in the South Marion cemetery. Deceased was born in Sweden on Oct. 18, 1861, and died in the county hospital at Webster City, Oct. 17, 1937, thus lacking but one day of having reached the age of 76 years. Death came as the result of a stroke of paralysis suffered a week previous. He came to this country with his parents in 1866 and located in Rock Island, Ill. In 1871, his parents, Swen and Bertha Peterson, moved to the East Marion community, which has ever since been the home of the deceased. On Oct. 18, 1890, he was married to Miss Anna Lund and two children were born of this union, a son, Embert, and a daughter, Litella. The daughter died in January, 1919, and Mrs. Peterson died June 23, 1895. On March 8, 1911, deceased was married to Miss Hulda A. Nystrom, of Boone, who has been a most faithful companion, and who together with the son, Embert, survives him. He is also survived by three grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. F.A. Carlson, of Stratford; a brother, J.A. Peterson, of Pine City, Minn. A brother, Andrew, died in October 1933. After his first marriage, Mr. Peterson lived on the farm now occupied by his son but in 1906 moved onto another farm in the immediate neighborhood. While not an active member of the church he believed in the church and gave his support to three of the churches in the community. While attending a Methodist meeting he indicated his faith in that church by accepting the gospel invitation. Deceased was held in the highest esteem, not only by his hosts of friends here, but by everyone who knew him. He succeeded in life by applying himself hard to his work and during his lifetime held many positions of trust and honor. He had been a director of two banks at Stanhope and at his death was president of the merged banks. He was a director in the Farmers Elevator and Livestock Co., at Stanhope. A man of wise counsels his advice was worthwhile and wholeheartedly given. His death came as a severe blow to his many friends in this community.
