Mr. and Mrs. Christensen moved from the farm near Bushong to Americus about 14 years ago, The funeral will be held from the M.E. church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Duenow, of Emporia, assisted by Rev. Broadfoot of Americus. Burial will be made in Emporia Maplewood cemetery. *********************************** The Americus Greeting, Wednesday, March 6, 1929; p.1, c.4 Niels Christensen was born in Denmark, Dec. 15, 1855, and died at Americus, Kan. Feb. 15, 1929. at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 10 days. He was baptised (sic) and confirmed into the Lutheran church in Denmark. He came to the United States in 1878, and settled near Americus, Kan. He was married to Ane Christensen, May 15, 1885. To this union were born five children, four sons and one daughter. The oldest son Chris, died when eight years old. After coming to the United States, Mr. Christensen spent his life in Lyon county, Kansas, except seven years which were spent at Burgington, Col. [Burlington,CO.?] He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christensen; three sons, Sophus Christensen, of McCloud, Cal.; Will Christensen, of Bushong; and Neal Christensen, of Stockton, Cal.; and one daughter, Mrs. Anna Grimsley, of Americus; ten grandchildren, one brother, Jens Christensen, of Americus; two sisters, Kirsten Jensen, of Denmark and Christina Asmussen of Allen, Kan.; also numerous other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon. Burial was made in Maplewood Cemetery of Emporia. The pall bearers were James Phelan, B.F. Wilson, S. Madsen, Harvey Brown, Hans P. Nielsen and Henry Reichardt.
