The 1885 Nebraska State Census shows him living in Elk Creek Township, Custer County, Nebraska. On 9 Jan 1887 he married Abelone Christine Nielsen at Beechville, Custer County, Nebraska. They had three children: - Karen Marie "Carrie" Jacobsen (1887-1965) - James Niels Jacobsen (1890-1965) - Alfred Martin Jacobsen Peterson (1892-1986) By 1894 Abelone Christine had became ill and Niels was unable to care for his childen (one report is that he was also ill, possibly with diabetes). Karen, James and Alfred (Peterson) each went to live with and/or were adopted by neighbors/relatives. The 1900 US Federal Census shows Niels living by himself in Elk Creek Township, Custer County, Nebraska. The Ansley Chronicle, Friday, 6 Dec 1901 states: "Niels Jacobsen, died at the home of his sister in Hampton, Nebraska, Sunday. His remains were brought here for interment Tuesday of this week." [ Although not stated in the article, it is believed that this sister was Mrs. Jens Jacob Olsen (Maren Dusine Jacobsen Olsen) as her family had moved to and were living in the Hampton / Bradshaw area in that time frame. ] In a 28 Aug 2018 meeting with the Basin Lutheran Cemetery Sexton a list of burials was reviewed. Niels Jakobsen is listed as being buried on 3 Dec 1901. No Death Date is listed. Place of death is listed as "Hamilton Co but buried here". A walk thru of the cemetery did not locate a headstone.
