Description	:	Norland "Red" Melvin, 73,was born Dec. 22, 1930, to Homer and Norma (Wehrman) Melvin near Angus. He died Saturday at the Nebraska Heart Institute, Lincoln. Norland was baptized in the Little Blue River and as a youth attended the Angus Church of Christ. He attended country school and graduated from Nelson High School in 1949. During his teen years, he worked on "hot rods" and hunting. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He married Carol Hall in Lakewood, Colo. To this union five children were born.... Read More	Norland "Red" Melvin, 73,was born Dec. 22, 1930, to Homer and Norma (Wehrman) Melvin near Angus. He died Saturday at the Nebraska Heart Institute, Lincoln. Norland was baptized in the Little Blue River and as a youth attended the Angus Church of Christ. He attended country school and graduated from Nelson High School in 1949. During his teen years, he worked on "hot rods" and hunting. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He married Carol Hall in Lakewood, Colo. To this union five children were born. Red and Carol lived and farmed around the Angus area the rest of his life. He was a long-time member of the Nelson Rural Fire Board, Angus School Board and a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. He had numerous collections including antique tools, belt buckles and walking sticks. During his spare time he enjoyed reading and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Brenda Sue Melvin and Tina Marie Melvin; sister,Theda Shaw, and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife, Carol of Angus; a daughter, Mrs. Duane Meyer (Christine), Hudson, Iowa; sons, Steve of Curtis and Barry of rural Angus, six grandchildren; and a sister. Mrs. Rich Turner (Janet), Marysville, Kan. Services were held Wednesday from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiated with burial in the Nelson Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home, Edgar, was in charge of arrangements.
