Description	:	Norma Irene Holmes Maher, daughter of Red and Ida Setterburg Holmes, was born September 12, 1913 at the family farm home 3 miles north west of Essex, Iowa and died February 11, 1996 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years. She graduated from Essex High School in 1933. After graduation she worked in the home of Oliver Hagglund, caring for his two young daughter, Phyllis and Patty Hagglund. Read More	Norma Irene Holmes Maher, daughter of Red and Ida Setterburg Holmes, was born September 12, 1913 at the family farm home 3 miles north west of Essex, Iowa and died February 11, 1996 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years. In 1936 she worked as a waitress and for Douglas Aircraft. On July 6, 1943, Norma was married to Joe Maher at Long Beach, California. Following their marriage they lived in Huntington Park, California until February 1949 when they returned to Essex, on a to a farm one fourth mile from where she was born. It was there that she lived the remainder of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Marion (Bus) Holmes. She is survived by her husband, Joe of Essex; one son James, and wife Ann of Essex; three granddaughter and one grandson, Kathleen, Pat, and Shannon of Omaha, Nebraska and Sarah at home in Essex. Also surviving is one brother, Carroll Holmes of San Francisco, California; and a number of other relatives and friends.
