Description	:	Norma Pearl Halverson, 83, of Elgin died Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union following a brief illness. She was born November 24, 1923 in rural Clayton County, to Helmer and Ruth (Houg) Loftsgard. Norma graduated from Postville High School. She was united in marriage to DeVere Johnes Halverson on November 16, 1945, at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. Three children were born to this union. Norma was a homemaker who enjoyed helping DeVere on the farm. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was born November 24, 1923 in rural Clayton County, to Helmer and Ruth (Houg) Loftsgard. Norma graduated from Postville High School. She was united in marriage to DeVere Johnes Halverson on November 16, 1945, at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. Three children were born to this union. Norma was a homemaker who enjoyed helping DeVere on the farm. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included gardening, baking, needle work and lovingly sharing these gifts with family and friends. Norma was a charter member of the Elgin Lutheran Church, and was very active in her church circle. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer pink lady at the West Union Hospital. Survivors include her son, Robert (Jane) Halverson, West Union; daughter, Nancy (Dan) Merfeld, Elburn, IL; daughter-in-law, Peggy Halverson, West Union; grandchildren, Anne Halverson (Tobin) Britt, West Union, Jodi Halverson (Darin) Bronson, Williams Bay, WI, Jon (Julie) Halverson, Waukee, Kari Halverson (Jaime) Hackley, West Union, Kyle and Shelby Halverson, West Union, Michael, Matthew and Mark Merfeld, Elburn, IL; eight great-grandchildren, Madison, Malia and Morgan Bronson, Zander and Claire Britt, Kaitlyn and Kaleb Hackley and Jackson Halverson. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband DeVere on June 7, 2004; one son, Larry Halverson; two sisters, Eileen Schneider, Sharon VanSickle and two brothers, Lloyd and Raymond Loftsgard.
