Mr. Blanchard, who was a stationary fireman for the Chicago & Northwestern railroad company, had been a resident of Council Bluffs for the past nine years. Oatha Blanchard was born in Tama County in 1867 but came to Carroll County with his parents when about twelve years of age and was raised on a farm northwest of town near the Oak Hill School. February 3, 1892, he was married to Savannah Raygor at the regular home just north of the Star Church and for a number of years they engaged in farming later moving to Coon Rapids where he was in business until moving to Council Bluffs in 1922. Mr. Blanchard was a member of the Odd Fellows and of the Methodist Church. For 36 years he was a member of the Woodmen Lodge. He was popular and well-liked and leaves a host of friends in this community and at Council Bluffs. Short funeral services were held at the funeral home in Council Bluffs with Rev. Homer Caskey officiating and then the body was taken to Coon Rapids where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church being conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. F. Clayburg. Burial was in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. The obituary as read by Rev. Clayburg follows: Oatha Z. Blanchard son of Rachel and John Blanchard was born in Tama County, Iowa, February 27, 1867, and died October 10, 1931, at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of suxty-four years, seven months and thirteen days. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two daughters and one son. Mrs. Ethel Rabuck of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Mae Ridgeway of Dexter, Minnesota and Frank of Trenton, New Jersey. Four brothers and two sisters: Lew, Will, and Uri and Mrs. William Holloway of Coon Rapids, Ab of Letcher, South Dakota, and Mrs. Elmer Bowers of Omaha, Nebraska. Three grandchildren and many friends of both Coon Rapids and Council Bluffs. He had been a member of the Methodist Church for more than 35 years. And was also a member of the Woodman Lodge. Blanchard at the Methodist Church in Coon Rapids Tuesday afternoon. Ab Blanchard and Jene Bowman of Letcher, South Dakota, Mrs. Elmer Bower from Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Waechter from Spirit Lake, Mrs. John Raygor and sons, Albert and Glen and Mr. and Mrs. Lindahl of Superior, Wisconsin. Mrs. Dean Wilkinson from Chelsea, Austin Walton from Toledo, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ridgeway from Dexter, Minnesota, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller of Hastings, Nebraska.
