Mr. Hauskey was stricken with pneumonia about a week ago and Saturday his condition became so serious that relatives were summoned to his bedside. The funeral was held from the Lake Preston Lutheran church Monday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Eid officiating, and a large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects. Burial was in the Lake Preston cemetery besides the grave of his wife, who preceded him in death. Olaus R. Hauskey was born in Fillmore county, Minn., April 26th 1857, and died at Lake Preston, SD, November 27th 1931, aged 74 years 7 months and 1 day. He grew to manhood in Minnesota. He attended college at Decorah, Iowa, for a time and in 1883 came to Kingsbury county, SD, and took up a homestead in the North Preston community. On March 13, 1885, he was married to Miss Racheal T. Osmundson in Fillmore county, Minn., and they immediately took up their residence upon the homestead, where they resided until 1897, when they moved to Lake Preston, which has been the family home ever since. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hauskey, three of whom, Alpha, Helmer and Walter, survive him. George died in infancy and Clarence died on Christmas day in 1921 at the age of 23. Mrs. Hauskey died April 20th, 1911, and to Alpha fell the duty of being mother to her brothers and comfort and support her bereaved father and no daughter or sister ever rose to emergencies more successfully and heroically than she. The deceased was widely known as an upright, honest and God fearing man. He was a good husband, good father, good neighbor and good citizen. The world is better for his having lived.
