Description	:	Copied from the May 16, 2001 edition of the Springview Herald: Olive Dorothy Gates was born August 26, 1901 near Brocksburg, Nebraska to John and Margaret (Wisemiller) Rowan, and she died May 2, 2001 at the Parkside Manor Nursing Home in Stuart, Nebraska at the age of 99 years, 8 months and 6 days. Olive was raised on the farm with her older sister, Verna, and her younger brother, Glendon. She helped raise her nephew, Leroy, after the death of her sister. Read More	Copied from the May 16, 2001 edition of the Springview Herald: Olive Dorothy Gates was born August 26, 1901 near Brocksburg, Nebraska to John and Margaret (Wisemiller) Rowan, and she died May 2, 2001 at the Parkside Manor Nursing Home in Stuart, Nebraska at the age of 99 years, 8 months and 6 days. Olive was raised on the farm with her older sister, Verna, and her younger brother, Glendon. She helped raise her nephew, Leroy, after the death of her sister. As a teenager she played the organ for her church. Olive met and married Gilbert "Gib" Gates on April 5, 1924 at Burke, South Dakota. They lived in various locations in central Nebraska before settling on their farmstead near Mills in 1935. She helped her husband with all of the usual tasks including haying, milking and gardening. They had one child, Getha, in 1925. She wrote stories and poems about everyday life that entertained friends and family alike. She worked for several years for the Lingo and Fischer Grocery stores. In 1993 Olive had a stroke and moved to Parkside Manor in Stuart, Nebraska, where she spent the rest of her life. As a result of the stroke, Olive was paralyzed and not able to talk. Olive is survived by her daughter, Getha and husband Clayton Ritterbush of Mills, Nebraska; three grandsons, Roger, Bruce, and Scott; two great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gib, in 1957.
