Description	:	Olive G. Callahan, 89, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Prairie Estates Care Center of Elk Point. Olive was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Sioux Valley township, two miles west of Akron, Iowa, to William and Henrietta (Burke) Hoschler. She attended Akron Public School where she graduated from High School in 1942. Callahan, 89, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Prairie Estates Care Center of Elk Point. Olive was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Sioux Valley township, two miles west of Akron, Iowa, to William and Henrietta (Burke) Hoschler. She attended Akron Public School where she graduated from High School in 1942. Following graduation, she attended St. Anthony's Nursing School at Carroll, Iowa, where she graduated in 1945 as a registered nurse. Upon completing Nursing School, she married Bernard J. Callahan on November 19, 1945, in Akron, Iowa, with whom she shared a full and active life for over 62 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Point. She was a homemaker and loving mother. Olive helped her family, friends, and neighbors with illnesses, using her knowledge as a registered nurse. Music was a large part of her life. She had a gifted singing voice and loved playing the organ in her home, no doubt the benefit of 13 years of piano lessons. Olive also served for a number of years on the St. Joseph's Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard in 2007, her parents, six brothers: Stephen, William, Edward, Lowell, Dennis and Leo and her two sisters, Francis and Rosalyn. Cherishing her memory are her sons M. James of Phoenix, AZ, Timothy B. and his wife Danice of Gresham, OR, and Kim K. and his wife Robin of Vermillion, SD. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Kendel, Hilary, Kevin and Sean Callahan. Pallbearers will be Tom Curry, Pat Walsh, Craig McInerney, Jim Donnelly, Doug Hanson and Kevin Callahan. Honorary pallbearer is Sean Callahan. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Salvation Army of Sioux City, Iowa or American Heart Association. Visitation: at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 605 East Main Street Elk Point South Dakota 57025 Family visitation will take place at the church from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 4 followed by a scriptural wake service at 7:00 PM. Service: at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 605 East Main Street Elk Point South Dakota 57025 Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Point with Rev.
