Miller OLIVER PERRY MILLER was born in Westmoreland county, Tenn., March 6th, 1827, and departed this life at his home in Birmingham, Iowa, October 11, 1915, aged 88 years, 7 months and 5 days. Miller OLIVER PERRY MILLER was born in Westmoreland county, Tenn., March 6th, 1827, and departed this life at his home in Birmingham, Iowa, October 11, 1915, aged 88 years, 7 months and 5 days. He grew to manhood at Adamsburg, Penn., where he was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Gilchrist, March 5, 1848. To this union was born eleven children, eight of whom preceded him in death. The living children are Mrs. F.J. Graber of Stockport; James P. of Des Moines, and D.A. Miller of Birmingham. In the month of April, 18_8, he with his family removed to Van Buren county, Iowa, and at or near Birmingham has been his home for over 47 years, except two years spent in Marion county, and one in the West. The devoted wife, and mother passed to her reward, October _, 1900. He was again married to Miss Susan Sample, July 16, 1903, who survives him. He united with the Lutheran church in early youth and remained a faithful member until he removed to the State of Iowa. In the winter of 1873 he united with the Free Methodist church of Birmingham, and lived an earnest, consistent, christian life. Always a firm believer in the principles which stood for truth and righteousness, he leaves a work well done in the service of his masters. He died as he had lived, in the hope of a glorious immortality in the life beyond the grave. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged wife, three children, seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Free Methodist church in Birmingham, Tuesday, Oct. 12th, by Rev. Behner, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. Robbins. The body was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery east of town to await the call of the Resurrection morn. Source: Van Buren Co.
