She was born December 13, 1915 at Council Grove, KS to Joseph and Florence (Shaw) Hastings and was a graduate of Council Grove High School. Read More	OPAL MAE HASTINGS STROH DOVER Opal Mae Dover, 99 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Homestead House in Beatrice Monday night, December 29, 2014. She was born December 13, 1915 at Council Grove, KS to Joseph and Florence (Shaw) Hastings and was a graduate of Council Grove High School. Opal married Roy Stroh on August 27, 1939 and later married Clarence "Jack" Dover on July 6, 1946. They lived in Wichita, Chanute, Cheery Vale, Pratt and Lenexa Kansas before moving to Beatrice. She had worked lastly at the Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, MO. Opal was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice; lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Rebeka Chapter in Chanute, KS; lifetime member of the DAR; volunteer at the Humana Hospital in Overland Park; and a volunteer in Beatrice at Community Players, Blood Mobile, and Senior Center. Opal enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards, and being with her family. Survivors include her daughter Susan Roberts of Beatrice; grandson Lance Weigel and wife Michelle of Altoona, Iowa; granddaughter Megan Roberts of Marysville; great grandsons Drew and Dalten Lehman of Altoona, and Brody Roberts of Marysville; brother Alan J. Hastings and wife Ethel of Herrington, KS; sister in law Maxine Hastings of Council Grove, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Florence (Shaw) Hastings; husband Roy Stroh and Clarence "Jack" Dover; sister Vivian Brown; and brothers Kenneth, Francis and Elvin Hastings. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Greg Gabriel officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 10-9:00 Friday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice and at the church one hour preceding the service on Saturday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the funeral home in charge. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 PM Saturday at the church.
