Description	:	Opal Verna (Wold) Smith, 97, of Vermillion, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Prairie Estates Healthcare Community in Elk Point. Opal Wold was born on July 2, 1919 in rural Hudson, South Dakota, the daughter of Chris and Petra (Haug) Wold. She grew up in rural Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Gordon Smith on October 18, 1942. They lived in Hudson, where Gordon ran an electrical company and Opal was a mother and a homemaker. They moved to Vermillion in 1958. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.... Read More	Opal Verna (Wold) Smith, 97, of Vermillion, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Prairie Estates Healthcare Community in Elk Point. Opal Wold was born on July 2, 1919 in rural Hudson, South Dakota, the daughter of Chris and Petra (Haug) Wold. She grew up in rural Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Gordon Smith on October 18, 1942. They lived in Hudson, where Gordon ran an electrical company and Opal was a mother and a homemaker. They moved to Vermillion in 1958. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also an active member of V.F.W. Auxiliary and held several offices. She worked at the SAE fraternity house at USD as a cook, and later as a baker at USD food services. Opal enjoyed quilting in two different quilt groups and baking, always having baked goodies at home. Opal is survived by her two daughters, Janet (Dean) Voss of Loretto, MN, and Patricia Smith of Yankton; her grandsons, Kevin (Heidi) Voss, and Scott (Amy) Voss; her great-grandsons,Sam, Jack, and Ben Voss; and her great-granddaughters, Allison and Megan Voss. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordon; her daughter, Carol and her son, Ronald; seven siblings. [Courtesy: Kober Funeral Home]
