Read More	CHANEY, ORA A.—Ora Arthur Chaney was born to Art and Rosa Anna (Mawhor) Chaney on February 10, 1904, and died at the St. Elizabeth hospital in Lincoln on March 20, 1984, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 10 days. He was the fourth of five children in the family. He was a lifelong member of the Geneva community. He attended District 7 School and the Geneva public schools. He started farming in 1918 on a farm north of Geneva. In 1936 he and his brother, Chet, started the Chaney Implement Company which they operated for over 30 years. In 1956 he became a partner with Harold Gemmer in an irrigation well drilling business which they operated for many years. He was a good farmer and took great pride in his work. Even after his retirement from his implement business, he continued to participate in his own farming and other business activities until shortly before his death. He was united in marriage to Gladys Burt on August 26, 1927. To this union four children were born; a son, Richard Arthur, and three daughters Ruth Ann, Mary Louise, and Margery Ora. He was a member of the United Methodist church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sophia and Ruth; and two brothers, Chet and Guy. He is survived by his son, Richard Chaney of Geneva; daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ann Kerl of Omaha, Mrs. Mary Bitterman of Belton, Mo., and Margery Chaney of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services were held at Farmer and Son funeral home in Geneva on Friday afternoon, March 23, with the Rev. Don Marsh officiating. Curt Prater sang the musical selections, “In the Garden” and “Beyond the Sunset,” accompanied by Mrs. Norval Lomax. Pallbearers were Michael, Douglas and Barry Chaney, Roger Bitterman, Mark Kerl and David Dahlstrom. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal March 29th, 1984 page 23.
