He had been in declining health the past few months. Oramill Barr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey D. Barr, was born May 15, 1869, at Rock Falls, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, and attained the age of 65 years and 1 month. When only a few weeks old, he came with his parents from Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, to Union County, S.D., where his father, Harvey D. Barr took a position in what was known as the Big Sioux flouring mill, located on the Big Sioux River, east of Jefferson, S.D. He came to Akron, Iowa, (then Portlandville), with his parents in 1871, when his father built the second residence in town and assisted in the building of the E.W. Sargent flouring mill here, in which he was employed as a miller for several years. Ora Barr grew to manhood in Akron. During the past twenty-six years he had been employed as a horseman at various racing stables in the circuits of this and surrounding states, but has always called Akron his home, and spent most of his time here during the past three years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Marion and Frank, and two sisters, Mrs. Bert A. Port and Mrs. Chas. H. Maxson. Surviving him are two brothers; Major Barr, of Riversioux Park, Union County, S.D., and Grant Barr, of Akron, and a number of nephews and nieces. He had never married. A man of kind and generous nature, he was liked and respected by all who knew him. A brief funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.F. Moore, pastor of the M.E. Church, at Klauer Bros.' undertaking parlors, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, with a number of relatives and friends in attendance. The pallbearers were five nephews, Velton Barr, Emil Barr, Hayes Barr, Garvis Barr, and Archie Barr, and B. Woods, of Elk Point. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
