Orson Cummins came to Kansas when it was apparently a wilderness and staked his claim where they now live. As a neighbor he was liked by all. He leaves an aged wife and one son and a daughter. They have the sympathy of this entire community in this their sad affliction. (The Weekly Bulletin, Anthony, KS, March 9, 1894) Note: bio info provided by Merllene (#47157899) Obituary Died – At his home near this city at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Orison Cummins in his 78th year. Orison Cummins was born near Springfield, Massachusetts April 7th, 1816. He moved with his parents from that place to Bradford county Pennsylvania where he grew to manhood and was married to Miss Hannah Bovier November 11th 1838. Four children were born to them of whom two only are living: David Cummins of Miller Nebraska and Mrs. Sarah Nevins of Bluff City, both of whom were with him during his last illness. In 1844 he moved to Medina county Ohio and during the next few years lived a short time each in Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, California and Iowa. In 1878 he moved to Sumner county where he has since lived. In 1846 he and his wife united with the Baptist church of which he remained a consistent member until death. In all his dealings Mr. Cummins was upright and stood high in the estimation of the people who knew him. He had been troubled with a complication of bodily troubles for several weeks past but it was not till a few days since that the case was considered dangerous. His son David came from Nebraska before his death so that both his children and his wife were with him at the close. The funeral took place Wednesday, the interment being in the Devore cemetery whence kind hands bore him to his last rest, the funeral services being held at the residence by Rev. Lowery. The large following of neighbors attested the esteem in which he was held and the sympathy which was extended to the bereaved ones.
