Read More	Published in the Harlan County Journal (Alma, NE) Thu, Apr 17 1958: Orly Reuben Cassell Orly Reuben Cassell, son of Ephriam and Sarah Cassell, was born in Florid, Putman County, Illinois, February 6, 1875. After a long period of poor health he passed away at the Memorial hospital in Alma, Nebraska on April 8, 1958, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 2 days. He came to Harlan county at the age of 10 years and lived on the farm where Marvin Kammerer now lives until he was married. He married May Russell on May 18, 1898, north of old Republican City. To this union were born four sons and four daughters. One son, Glen, died in infancy. He farmed in the Republican City community until he retired in 1945. He was baptized and converted when a young man, and later united with the Methodist church. For many years he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the church, including the time when the new church was built in 1930 in the old town of Republican City. At the time of his death he was an honorary steward of the church. He took an active interest in other community affairs. For a number of years he served as a member of the Harlan County Board of Supervisors, serving as chairman part of the time. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, in infancy, and by a sister, Mrs. Will Hunter. He is survived by his wife, May Cassell, three sons, Floyd of Denver, Colo., Ralph of Fort Collins, Colo., and Donald of Great Bend, Kans., four daughters, Erma Kammerer and Leola White of Republican City, Nebr., Sula Stolts of Hastings, Nebr., and Fay Willis of Grand Island, Nebr., 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three brothers, Joe of Olympia, Wash., Vern of Longmont, Colo., and Arch of McCook, Nebr., other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the First Methodist church in Republican City Saturday afternoon, April 12, at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Jerry McInnis, pastor of the church officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Jim Hunter, Mrs. Haskell Waldo, Jim Hunter and Tom Chandler, accompanied by Mrs. James Buttermore at the organ, provided the music. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Orlie (sic) Stolts, Marvin Kammerer, Donald Shull, Gary Cassell, Dennis Cassell and Jack Cassell. Interment was in the Republican City cemetery.
