Description	:	Orpha Fern Crandell, one of four children of Matt and Jannett (Gibbons) Crandell was born on a farm east of Nelson, Nebraska, December 10, 1904, and passed away at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center, on Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at the age of 90 years, six months and 12 days. Read More	Orpha Fern Crandell, one of four children of Matt and Jannett (Gibbons) Crandell was born on a farm east of Nelson, Nebraska, December 10, 1904, and passed away at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center, on Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at the age of 90 years, six months and 12 days. Fern was a lifelong resident of Nuckolls County. She graduated from the Nelson School and remained in the home for a time helping care for her aging parents. Fern also did some clerical work until her mother died, then she went to work in the county treasurer's office for four years. Teachers were in short supply at that time so Fern went to Hastings College summer school for three years and started teaching. She taught in Oak, Ruskin, Fairfield and rural schools for 15 years, then retired and was the librarian for the City of Nelson for 10 years. Fern accepted the Lord at an early age and was a faithful church worker. She was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a member of Women's Society, Women's Club, W.C.T.U., Senior Citizen's Group, Golden Age Club and Retired Teachers Association. Fern was a good neighbor to all. She was a faithful and dedicated caretaker of her mother and her brother, Victor, until their death. Preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers, an infant, Marvin Crandell and Victor Crandell. Survivors include cousins and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, June 23, 1995, at 10:30 a.m. from Klawitter-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Nelson, Nebraska, with David Reppart officiating. Hymns of "In The Garden" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder: were sung. Casketbearers were Earl Adamson, Elbert Farver, Vernon Melvin, Bruce Scroggin, Kenneth Hamel and Craig Grummert. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, June 29, 1995; pg. 11
