Obit of Columbus Crandell Columbus Mathia Crandell was born at Blue River Richland County Wisconsin and died in Nelson Nebraska. His father William Crandell died in the Civil War. At the age of 13 he came with his mother and step father James Clement Reeve to Nebraska. On Sept 4 1892 he married Miss Janette Givins of Blue River Wisconsin. His mother Mary A. Reeve preceded him in death on June 8, 1908. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow and two sons Victor E. and Marvin W. and one daughter Fern all at home. also two half-brothers George G. Reeve and John C. Reeve, and one half sister Mrs. Jim Dunken. Mr. Crandell was one of our early settlers having located in Nuckolls County in June 1874. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday Jan 26 1928 page 7 Source: [email protected] Columbus Mathias Crandell was born at Blue River, Richland County, Wisconsin, March 1, 1861 and died at his home in Nelson, Nebraska, Jan 18, 1828 at the age of 66 years 10 mos. and 18 days. His father William Crandell died in the Civil War in 1864. At the age of 13 years he came with his mother and step father James Clement Reeve to Nebraska, locating in Nuckolls County where he has since made his home. On Sept. 4, 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Janet A. Givins of Blue River, Wisconsin. To this union were born four children, one son having preceded him in infancy. His mother Mary A. Reeve preceded him to the better land in June, 1908. Mr. Crandell united with the M. E. Church of Nelson in 1903, where he has been a faithful member ever since. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow , two sons Victor E. and Marvin W., and one daugher Fern all at home; also two half brothers George G. and John C. Reeve, and one half sister Mrs Jim Dunken, besides a host of friends and relatives who will greatly miss him from their midst. Services were conducted Friday afternoon at the M. E. Church by Rev. Chamberlain where a host of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects to our departed brother. The body was laid to rest in the Nelson Cemetery. The out of town relatives in attendance at the services, were: Mr. Preston Reeve of Cowles, Mr and Mrs Harry and Bert Reeve of Guide Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Will Peters of Angus, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Campbell of Davenport, Mr. Ora Crandell and children of Oak, Mr. and Mrs Frank Belcher of Nora. Card of Thanks We wish to sincerely thank our neighbors and friends for the kindness shown us in the bereaveement of our beloved husband and father; also for the beautiful floroal offerings. Mrs. C. M. Crandell and Family. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, Jan. 19, 1928 Matt Crandell died at his home east of Nelson Wednsday morning. He was taken suddenly ill Tuesday night and passed away about half past eight o'clock the next morning. Mr. Crandell came here from Wisconsin and has resided in Nelson for about forty years. He leaves his wife, two sons, and one daughter to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and loving father. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist church.
