Smith dies at 80 BIRMINGHAM - Orril E. Smith, 80, of Birmingham, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. Friends may call at their convenience. Memorials may be left at the funeral home. Smith was born May 12, 1904 in Jefferson County near Lockridge, the son of Charlie C. and Nellie Crane Smith. He spent his life farming in Jefferson and Van Buren counties until retiring to Birmingham in 1980. On May 26, 1948, he married Barbara Etta Haynes Pollitt at Keokuk. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Charles L. Smith, Douds, John G. Pollitt, Keokuk, Richard S. Pollitt, Shellrock; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Retha Nelson, Fairfield, and a brother, Cecil Smith, Baraboos, Wis. A granddaughter preceded him in death. Mr. and Mrs. Smith made a home for more than 30 foster children.
