April 15, 1943 - Newell Mirror - Funeral services were held Wednesday for Orville Ellis, age 67, who passed away at his home Sunday evening as the result of a heart attack. He had been in poor health for quite some time but seemed to be well on the road to recovery when he was suddenly taken ill Sunday and passed away that evening. Services were held at the home at 2:00 o'clock and from the Congregational church at 2:30 with Rev. J.R. Moore officiating. A mixed quartet composed of Frank Hocum, Douglas Boyce, Carol Polly, and Lucille Moore sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "In the Garden". Pall bearers were Axel Hemmingsen, Andrew Jensen, Clifford Olsen, Gail Housholder, Oscar Samelson and Warren Kinney. Interment was in the Newell cemetery. Orville Benjamin Ellis, son of Sylvester and Lucinda Ellis, was born December 18, 1875 on a farm in Providence township and departed this life April 11, 1943, having reached the age of 67 years, 3 months and 23 days. In 1895 he moved to a farm north east of Newell where be spent the greater part of the remainder of his life. On April 3, 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Erickson and to this union one son, Gladwyn, was born. Mrs. Ellis passed away on January 14, 1902. On June 7, 1911 he was united in marriage to Lucy Piercy and to this union one son, Fay, was born. For a period of years following the death of their mother two nephews, Wayne and Clifford Ellis, made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Ellis. Orville was affiliated with the First Congregational Church of Newell and contributed much to its fellowship, being always interested in its welfare. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis moved to town in December of 1942. Some weeks ago he suffered a heart attack from which he was apparently recovering, when, on Sunday afternoon, he suffered another attack, and at 11 o'clock in the evening he passed quietly into the Great Beyond. He is survived by his wife, two sons, two brothers, Lorin of Newell and Jay of Sioux City, two sisters, Mrs. A.D. James and Mrs. Edwin James of Newell, one sister, Mrs. C.C. Keeny, passed away in 1922, besides numerous nieces and nephews and a great host of friends.
