Description	:	Orville Wear was a son of George W. Wear and Mina Pearl Barnes, who are also buried at Halstead Cemetery. Orville Wear, 21, of Wichita, Kansas, was married Feb. 13, 1924 to Minerva Steinbaugh, 21, of Wichita, Kansas. They had 2 children; Lois Wear, married Wilbur Brown, residence in Manhattan, Kansas and Kearney, Nebraska. Maurice Wear, married former Halstead resident Marilee Sundbye. Orville Wear, 21, of Wichita, Kansas, was married Feb. 13, 1924 to Minerva Steinbaugh, 21, of Wichita, Kansas. They had 2 children; Lois Wear, married Wilbur Brown, residence in Manhattan, Kansas and Kearney, Nebraska. Maurice Wear, married former Halstead resident Marilee Sundbye. Residence in Miltonville, Kansas. Orville Wear earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Friends University of Wichita, and in 1935, a Masters degree in Education from the University of Wichita. Orville was a teacher and principal at the Sawyer schools for six years, taught at Pamona one year, and was Superintendent of Schools at Canton, Kansas for eight years. In 1940, Orville and family returned to Halstead, and later moved to the farm home where he was active in farming until a few years before his death. He was an active member of The First United Methodist Church and was a trustee of the Methodist Children's Home, now known as Methodist Youthville, for the past 18 years. Note that Gene H. Barnes (1928-2007), a relative of Orville, was a Superintendent for Rainbow Construction who worked on several building projects at Methodist Youthville during the the late 1970's to 1980's. Gene's gr. grandfather, Elijah H. Barnes, was the next younger sibling to Orville's grandfather, Armstead "A. L." Barnes. Unfortunately, it's felt that Orville and Gene never met and never knew of their family connection. Orville Wear died at his farm home located southwest of Halstead, the same location where he was born. Children: Maurice D. Wear, born Dec. 15, 1926, died Dec. 24, 2011, in Laramie, Wyoming. Maurice was captain of an undefeated Halstead high school basketball team that was later inducted into the Kansas Coaches Hall of Fame. He was an engineer at Boeing Aircraft , a teacher and principle in various schools, and later received a doctorate degree in Laramie, Wyoming. He became a professor, department chairman and associate dean of the college of education at the University of Wyoming.
